Students participate for annual Playsmart Academy
Seventh- and eighth-grade students from across Nebraska came to Omaha for the annual Playsmart Academy.
The summer camp has been around for about 10 years now, and organizers said it's all about giving these children the leadership skills they need to succeed while having fun.
“We are teaching them about social skills and life,” Manna said. “About interaction; respecting one another.”
Students from 25 schools all across the state attended this year's Playsmart Academy.
“We go as far as Nebraska City, Weeping Waters, and we have kids from north Omaha, west Omaha and south Omaha,” said Manna.
It’s an opportunity to connect with students from all different backgrounds and develop long-lasting relationships.
The experience didn’t end at camp. At the end of the week, each group is given a community project. They will come back in February to present them to the camp.
