PlaySmart Academies held in Six different Cities!
Beginning in Omaha and Denver and ending in New York, this has been one busy summer PlaySmart. Our flagship program was enjoyed by hundreds of kids across the country. The program reached four cities in 2012 and this year saw the addition of two more regional sites. The growth of the program is credited to the hard work of the board, staff and dedicated volunteers, partners and sponsors. Major sponsors such as Lids, the Lids Foundation, Top of the World Hat Company, Nike, DICKS Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, the Werner Foundation, the City of Denver, NFL Charities and others joined local individual donors to ensure that ALL kids participated at no cost to their families.
Middle school age youth in Omaha, Denver, Oklahoma City, Tampa, St. Petersburg and Rye/Port Chester (NY) particpated in the one week program featuring athletics, life skills workshops, guest speakers, academic enrichment swimming, outdoor activities like ropes courses and archery and water sports like sailing.
“All children deserve to have a memorable summer – the Academy provides that and much more – from friendships to skills and experiences they can use back in their families, classrooms and communities. They will remember this for a long time,” stated Mike Trepper, PlaySmart Executive Director.
